Megiddo in greek means Armageddon, and this is a place of historical significance and unfulfilled prophecy. Anciently this hill and fortress on top were built to fortify the crossroads of main trade routes through the Middle East. It has been the site of many conflicts over the centuries, and in the book of Revelation John says this will be the site of the final battle of good versus evil during Armageddon. The fortress city on top has been abandoned since 586 BC. The second picture shows some of the ruins with a round alter made of unhewn stone that dates back at least 3000 years.
