Read at your own discretion...A few posts ago showed the start of a home project I was really looking forward to - the built in bookshelves. One project leads to a half-a-dozen others. We had a cold spell shortly after I started those bookshelves that got us really worried that we were running out of time before the snow came. So we've made a mad push to knock out a number of the projects we've been wanting to do. This has meant about a month and a half of long weekends and late nights of working after the kids are in bed.
While we'd torn up the front of our upstairs to do the bookshelves we first decided to go ahead with some changes to our bedroom. I affectionately call this remodeling our remodel. A couple of years ago when we were building the addition we changed our bedroom dormer plan during construction which enlarged our master bedroom. We hadn't planned for the extra space so in the end we had a lot of wasted space. We can't have wasted space, so we put up a new wall and created a walk-in closet (kinda hard to tell, but the French doors in the photo lead into the new closet). Our old knee wall closet (seemed like a good idea before it was built) has become great storage space. While I initially wasn't so excited for the extra project, it has turned out to be a nice space.
Since finishing the bookshelves, we decided to keep the momentum going and have also built a window seat with storage underneath, put in all the upstairs baseboard, built some knee wall cubbies, built pantry storage shelves, and - with all my mad new woodworking skills - built Marta some freestanding bookshelves. We'll now both now have upstairs desk spaces along with more shelf and storage space than we'll know what do with.
