The Pinewood derby has come a long way in the last 20 years.
Beau is about to be a Cub so they invited him to build and race a car. This first picture is right before the first race and you
may be able to see the excitement in his face. They
weren’t kidding around with this track they brought in – all computerized timing
with displays on a projector of who won each heat.
Everyone knows that the
racing is not really for the kids but for the dads, so I took the building of
the car a bit serious and read all kinds of tips online. I had the digital
scale out to add the exact proper weight to the hundredth ounce and had the
wheels properly aligned and lubed. Our car did really well and - thanks to a computer glitch that went our way - we won first overall.
