Here's The Master Plan

Here is the big picture, and when I say big I mean long term. Within the next month or so we should be done with the shell of this design, but all we are able to do currently is the shell, so I will be left with three unfinished spaces. I'm developing my insulating, electrician, plumbing, hardwood floor, drywall, and finish carpentry skills as we plan to finish these spaces over the next couple of years. I think that I won't be out of things to do for a while...

Progress!

We finally have some visible progress to report. Our plumbing contractor has been the bottleneck as we have been waiting for rough plumbing before we could pour the basement floor. After nearly three weeks of no real progress we have begun the framing. In just a few days work we now have our main floor nearly enclosed. It is really exciting to be able to really feel the room layouts and see the window and back door placement. Today the framers are working on the ceiling and the subfloor for the second story. So getting the basement floor covered will hopefully help getting it dried out enough so that we can pour that concrete through the window. That is if we can get the plumber out.

Christmas 2006

We had a relaxing Christmas as I had over a week of vacation to use and no house to work on as planned. Beau has enjoyed the Christmas season - the lights on the houses in particular. He is very excited to let us know every time we drive by a house with them. He also enjoyed opening gifts, but without a doubt his favorite gift this year was this kid-sized trampoline. He calls it his "tram·bou·rine". On the construction front, today all of our lumber for the construction was delivered. I'm guessing that it was ordered some time ago and our Contractors thought they'd be further along than they are. Over the last couple of weeks the only thing that has happened back there is the backfilling of our walls. Seeing the trusses and lumber is exciting as I've heard that step of the construction goes pretty quickly. Although up to this point, nothing has really happened very quickly so we'll see about that.
